Dogs all over the world are used for different purposes. Dogs in the North Pole and the South Pole were mainly used for transportation. Dogs were used to pull sledges along the snow. They were also used in other areas without snow for transporting goods. Sled dogs were mostly used to transport goods in the Arctic area. They were also used to deliver mails in Canada and the interior areas of Arctic.
Sled dogs are being used in some parts of the world up to date. They are still in use in some areas in Canada and Alaska. They are also in use through the whole country of Greenland. People have also come up with new ways of using sled dogs today. They are now used in racing events and as a form of recreation.
Originally, sled dogs were chosen according to the size, stamina, and strength of a dog. Things have changed a little bit as they now check for the endurance and speed of a dog. Sled dogs can move at a speed of about 45km/hr. Some of the dog breeds used as sledge dogs include Alaskan Husky, Alaskan Malamute, Canadian Eskimo, Chinook, Greenland dog, Samoyed and Siberian Husky. Alaskan Husky is the most used sled dog due to its great performance.
